THE KIKAUA POINT COTTAGES
Located near the ocean at the Kukio Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii. The design, envisioned by local Architects Hart Howerton, provides the essentials of Hawaiian living built around tropical gardens and rock walls. The building forms are casual, yet sophisticated. There is a combination of two to five dwellings nestled within each property, creating a unique low-density village environment. The cottage buildings are oriented to their surrounding gardens. All rooms relate to these gardens, melding the elements as one.
Privacy lava rock walls separate neighbors and the cart path. The buildings’ exterior plaster walls, Ohia wood posts, and heavy timber split pitch copper roofs complement the surrounding landscape and rock walls. An outdoor pool and spa balance the setting of lush greenery and lava with the soothing element of water.
